56th Annual Chicago Air and Water Show

Today we went to the Air and Water Show, or more accurately, went to the top of our building to watch it! We started outside, but the crowd got rather large, and our view was obstructed, so we went inside to the lounge, which had a much better view. We listened to the live radio broadcast while watching, so we knew what was coming, and the people who were flying in the show. Not having been to an air show before, it was exhilarating watching people parachute out of the big planes. My favorite though was the F22 Raptor - that was such a beautiful airplane to watch - it looked like a large graceful bird. They paired it later on for what they called a Heritage Flight, which showed a plane from 1944, and they flew side by side - it was so amazing to see them together. The main act was the Blue Angels. They didn't come last year due to budget cuts, so it was something everyone was looking forward to. Although my favorite was still the Raptor, the Blue Angels put on a great show, mostly flying in a formation of four, with two opposing jets doing flips and passes. It was a "low" show because of the cloud coverage today. They will run the same show tomorrow, so it's interesting to think it could be different (more rolls, etc) with different weather. Very cool - so glad we got to be here for it!
