Tulip Time!

This past weekend we fulfilled a bucket list item of mine...Holland, MI at Tulip Time :)

Neither of us have been to Michigan before, and we really enjoyed it. There are more wineries, distilleries and breweries on the side of the road then there are rest stops....literally!

We drove up on Saturday morning, and got into town around lunch time. We enjoyed a nice lunch on the rooftop deck of the hotel, and then walked to Windmill Island. It has a real windmill imported from Holland, it was once a look out during WWII. There was a beautiful field of tulips, and lots of people trying to get their photos. We wandered through the Dutch stores, and mostly just enjoyed sitting outside on a gorgeous day.

Then we walked back through town, stopped at a small brewery called Our Brewery, where they were out of pretty much everything, so Drew had one beer, and then we walked next door to New Holland Brewery, and grabbed a seat in the front window - perfect for people watching!

We called it an early night, and watched Blues Brothers in our very unique hotel room, (we stayed at City Flats Hotel - the first completely green hotel in the midwest). Our room had two queen beds, and instead of side by side, they were headboard to headboard, with a walking space in between, and a TV attached above each bed. It was unique! They used bamboo sheets, and I have to say - they were cozy!

Sunday morning we went to the Windmill Cafe for breakfast, and then drove to Veldheer's Garden's - where we saw how Dutch wood shoes are made, and Delft, and tons and tons of tulips! It was a lot less crowded than Windmill Island, and another beautiful day. Truly a great getaway! We finished off the trip with a stop at Sagatauck, and had lunch on the water. Here's some tulip photos:
