Cubby Bears

We went to our first Chicago Cubs game last Saturday, we walked the 2.5 miles to get there, pretty much straight out our front door - we have a great location! Stopped along the way at a place called Jake's, which has been a bar since 1933 - they still use the original cash registers. After refreshments we continued our walk - it's amazing how in a city like Chicago, the neighborhoods really are so different. We live in the Lincoln Park area, and walked to the Wrigleyville area, which is much more commercial, much younger (college aged/recent grads vs. the young professional/family mix in our area). The game was a lot of fun, and we can't wait to go back. We had the traditional Old Style Beer, which I think is Pabst Blue Ribbon in different packaging...hot dogs - a Frito Lay Pie Dog! It consists of chili, cheese, and you guessed it, Frito Chips! They got mine wrong though, so after finding our seats in the furthest top section there was, I had to go all the way back down - I wasn't letting my chance for a Frito Lay Pie Dog to be missed :) It was good, but definitely a ball game only snack! The weather got really cool with the breeze...a glimpse of what's coming!

After the game Wrigleyville is a very fun place to be, so we went to two places we had visited on past trips, first Gutherie's Tavern, a neighborhood pub with a ton of board games, and it's in an old home, so it feels like you're in a living room - we played Yahtzee, and then headed over to the Cubby Bear - a large entertainment complex, and it had turned into a dance club, at 7:00! So like the early birds we are, we enjoyed it for a while, and caught a cab home to make it to sleep by 10:00 :)

As much as I miss our home in Fort Myers, and our family, the adventure in Chicago is really wonderful, and I am so thankful for the time and experiences ahead! Hope to have visitor's soon!
